The DOGA box file challenge The competition:
To build a model in a box file.
There will be two classes of entry:
Class A - Dioramas and other static models. While these must include track there is no requirement for anything to move on it.
Class B - Working layouts.
Rules:
- Each model must include a piece of OO gauge track - the type of track doesn't matter (Peco, Hornby, SMP, C&L etc.)
- The model must be contained in a standard box file available from a stationer. It must be possible to close the lid. If multiple files are used they must be seperatable with simple tools, e.g. spanners, in the manner of a portable layout.
- The following modifications ARE allowed to the box file:
- Removal of the spring clip inside the box.
- Making sides/ends removable or able to fold down. Enough must be left to allow the file to be closed up properly.
- Making holes in sides and ends to allow track to exit.
- Joining two or more files together in a non-permenant way.
- Switches and sockets may stick out of the side.
- The following modifications are NOT allowed:
- Permanent joining of files.
- Making files larger than they were originally purchased i.e. adding height or width.
- Removal of the lid of the file.
- Buildings etc. taller than the height of the file may split down to fit in with the lid shut BUT all the parts must fit inside the closed box.
- Any fiddle yards must be contained within a box file, or at least must be packed into a file when the "layout" is packed up. Example: A layout includes a fiddle yard made in a box file and a short track extension for a headshunt. The later must pack into the "fiddle yard" file when everything is folded up.
- Stock, controllers and transformers may be separate items and do not need to be built in.
- Judging will be carried out at the DOGA stand at Warley NEC show 2004. Models will be judged by other DOGA members using a voting system.
- Entries may be delivered or posted to the organisers. If posted, return postage must be supplied - DOGA will not pay to return your model !
- The competition is only open to paid DOGA members.
